Why does the date move?
Thai Buddhist observances fall on full-moon days of the Thai lunar calendar, so their civil dates shift from year to year. Buddhist communities in other countries follow their own calendars, which is why Vesak in Sri Lanka, Japan, or the West can fall on a different day than Visakha Bucha in Thailand.
