It involves the traditional worship of the Saptarishi, a group of the seven most prominent sages – Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadvaja, Vishvamitra, Gautama Maharishi, Jamadagni, and Vasishtha. In some parts of Kerala, the day is also observed as Vishvakarma Puja.
